Gosh, it seems like only yesterday when then Senator Barack Obama was making promises and painting pictures of the rosier America we would enjoy if he were elected President. He promised that the oceans would cease to rise, that Muslim hostility would ease and that his would be the most transparent administration in history.
Huh.
I haven’t checked the ocean levels, but I find most of the Obama promises to be left wadded up and left behind like used Kleenex along the path to the worst economy in 80 years where we currently stand on the brink of yet another recession and see unprecedented numbers of our citizen neighbors living in poverty. Since we elected Barack Obama we’ve seen the number of citizens (and non citizens as well) whose daily bread comes from the government trough by way of food stamps skyrocket. If we look around we can’t help but be discouraged by what we see. Talk about your buyer’s remorse, we’ve got it in spades.
He promised us that we’d all have the opportunity to review pending legislation via the internet prior to congressional action. That didn’t happen. He promised those of us who live in the middle-class that we wouldn’t be burdened with more taxes on his watch. That didn’t happen either. Obamacare, his signature legislation, and the taxes it will inflict upon – yes, the middle class – are already creating huge burdens upon folks like me whose insurance costs are burgeoning. I fear the millions upon millions of dollars in tax increases slated for 2013 are staggering and will cause the already weakened and demoralized working class to buckle under the burden
Lately, though, I’ve been thinking a good deal about the President’s promise to have the most transparent administration in history. It comes to me that what he MEANT by transparency was a little different than what we understood him to mean. When he said he was going to have a transparent administration, he really meant that he would use the word, “clear” a lot.
“I’ve been clear about (fill in the blank.)” he’s told us.
“Let me be clear….”
“We have clearly said, (you can fill in this blank too.)” As if his speaking a thing aloud automatically brings “it” into being – “it” being whatever promise or wishful dream to which he happens to be referring. He really does have a God complex, I think.
Americans are CLEARLY in more pitiful shape than we've ever been since the last great depression. We are CLEARLY discounted among global leaders as weak and worthless. We are CLEARLY becoming a impotent nation. His promise was to make changes so "clear" that none of us could actually see them. It worked!
For my part I’m praying that Barack Obama will be clear in January. Clear over in Hawaii enjoying the rest of his non-political life.
